Research Interests

The human genome is well known for its infinite potential. The idea that something so complex could fit into something as small as a nucleus is mindblowing. Components such as histone proteins play a huge role in not only packaging the DNA but also in cell repair mechanisms, the pluripotency of the cell, cell division, etc. My work revolves around understanding these histones and their role in disease development.

Professional Profile

Sumaiya was born and raised in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, then she went back to India for higher education. She has enjoyed deep diving into topics revolving around genomics, gene regulation, signaling pathways and also developmental and translation studies. Sumaiya's work during her masters revolved around studying the WNT signaling pathway and peptide driven regulation of the pathway to treat triple negative breast cancer. This has further encouraged her to take up a PhD cell and molecular biology.

" What encouraged me to join the CBC lab?   I was quite blown away by the research work the lab had done. I mainly found out about it through reading the publications and now that I have met everyone, It’s amazing how well everyone works with each other."
