Shakila has worked as a lab support for 5 years in two different labs at KAUST KSA. For two years she worked under the supervision of Dr. Magdy Mahfouz, helping to establish CRISPR/Cas technology in plants. The following year she worked in Red Sea Research Center in multiple projects under supervision of Dr. Susana Agusti. Now she is working in Wolfgang Fischle's lab doing Microinjections to C. elegans & molecular analysis of different worm strains.
